A New SUV Is In Town: The 2022 Volkswagen Taos

You need an SUV that’s made for the city – something stylish, nimble, and spacious enough to take everything you want with you on the road. Well, you’ll be excited to hear that a new subcompact SUV is arriving soon, and it will check all the boxes of what you’re looking for, especially when it comes to affordability.

Introducing the 2022 Volkswagen Taos: an SUV that’s ready for urban adventure. The Taos is a completely new model to the Volkswagen lineup, and this 5-passenger ride promises great driver assistance and convenience features, as well as a spacious interior – all at a great price.

Before the Taos hits showrooms in late Spring of 2021, we’ll tell you what we know so far.

Clean Exterior Lines

At first glance, you’ll notice that the Taos features clean, modern and defined contouring, while maintaining a style that’s unmistakably Volkswagen. The Taos draws the greatest design inspiration from its larger Tiguan family member.

All trim options will offer standard LED headlights, and some trims will also offer an available illuminated line across the front grille. The Taos will offer wheel options ranging from 17” – 19”, depending on the trim option. Volkswagen has not yet released further information on the Taos trim options, but we anticipate an update within the coming months.

Driver-Focused Interior

The Taos will feature a modern and functional interior, inspired by other Volkswagen SUVs in the lineup. Depending on the trim you choose, you’ll have the option of 2-tone cloth, leatherette or leather seating finishes, as well as available heated steering wheel. Seating will be offered with available heating and cooling capability. The Taos will even offer customizable ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof.

The Taos will feature a completely digital instrument cluster and a 6.5” or available 8” infotainment touchscreen. Like other Volkswagen models, the Taos will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, SiriusXM satellite radio, embedded navigation, Bluetooth, voice control and even available wireless charging.

To make your time on the road even more enjoyable, you’ll be able to opt for other great interior features, like the available BeatsAudio sound system and 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.

Performance

The Taos will be powered by the new 1.5L 4-cylinder engine, providing you with 158 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. This SUV will be offered in 2 powertrains:

  • Front-wheel drive, with an 8-speed automatic transmission
  • All-wheel drive, with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic

IQ.DRIVE Safety

The 2022 Taos will be equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE: a suite of driver safety technology that actively helps to prevent collision and increase driver awareness. Standard on every Taos trim, IQ.DRIVE will provide you with these standard safety features:

  • Forward Collision Warning with Autonomous Braking (Front Assist)
  • Active Blind Spot Monitoring
  • Lane Keeping System (Lane Assist)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go
  • Travel Assist
  • Emergency Assist
  • High Beam Control (Light Assist)

For additional peace of mind on the road, you can also opt for the available Adaptive Front Lighting System and Park Distance Control.
