The 2027 Volkswagen Taos gives compact SUV shoppers five ways to build the same smart package. Every version uses a 1.5 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 174 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. From there, the trims add all-wheel drive, bigger screens, better seats and more comfort features step by step.

Every Taos gets Travel Assist, which pairs Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Lane Assist to help on long highway drives. Front Assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection is standard, along with Side Assist blind spot monitoring and Rear Traffic Alert. Inside, you get an 8.0-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
Cargo space is the same across the line: 790 L behind the rear seats and up to 1,866 L with the 60/40 split rear seats folded. Every Taos also has 193 mm of ground clearance.
The Trendline FWD is the entry point to the Taos line-up. It sends power to the front wheels and has the best fuel economy in the family, rated at 8.3 L/100 km city, 6.5 L/100 km highway and 7.4 L/100 km combined.
It rides on 17-inch Manali alloy wheels with black exterior trim. Inside, cloth seats, a 6-way manual driver seat and the 8.0-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit keep things simple and practical. Push-button start and rain-sensing wipers are also standard.
The Trendline 4MOTION keeps the Trendline’s equipment and adds 4MOTION all-wheel drive. That upgrade brings a multi-link independent rear axle, Driving Profile Selection with an ECO mode, and Hill Descent Control for steep, slippery grades.
It also moves up to 18-inch Kentucky alloy wheels. Fuel economy is rated at 9.4 L/100 km city, 7.2 L/100 km highway and 8.4 L/100 km combined, the same as every other 4MOTION Taos.
The Comfortline is where the Taos adds the most everyday comfort. It keeps 4MOTION all-wheel drive and brings a long list of features that make daily driving easier.
The screen behind the steering wheel grows to the 10.25-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro. KESSY keyless access lets you unlock the doors with the key in your pocket, and remote start helps warm up the cabin on cold mornings. Leatherette seats, an 8-way power driver seat with power lumbar support, wireless charging, SiriusXM and voice control round out the cabin. Park Distance Control with front and rear sensors, a rearview camera with dynamic guidance lines, and automatic high beams add confidence in tight spots and on dark roads. A panoramic power sunroof is optional.
The Comfortline Black Edition takes everything in the Comfortline and gives it a darker, sportier look. It rides on 19-inch Portland black alloy wheels and uses black roof rails, black mirror housings and black window surrounds.
The panoramic power sunroof becomes standard, and an illuminated light line across the front adds a clean signature at night. Inside, ambient lighting lets you choose from up to 10 colours. Five of its paint colours can also be paired with a black roof.
The Highline sits at the top of the Taos line-up. It adds real leather seats, and the front seats are both heated and ventilated for comfort in every season.
The Volkswagen Premium Audio System uses 6 speakers plus a subwoofer, and satellite navigation is built in. Dynamic Road Sign Display shows speed limits and other signs right in the driver’s view. The Highline keeps the panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and front light line, and uses chrome window surrounds with silver roof rails. It rides on 18-inch Fiji alloy wheels, with 19-inch Portland alloy wheels as an option.
