Important Oil Change Information For Your Volkswagen

In order to receive the best performance from your Volkswagen vehicle, it’s important to stick to your recommended vehicle maintenance schedule. Changing your vehicle’s oil and filter at regular mileage intervals is also an important part of vehicle maintenance.

If you’re in the Etobicoke, Toronto or Greater Toronto Areas, our team at Humberview Volkswagen is your destination for trusted, reliable and professional service. And before you visit us for service, we want to ensure that you feel confident in the maintenance we provide.

So, what should you know about Volkswagen oil changes before you visit? We’ve provided some information below based on frequently asked customer questions.

How often does my Volkswagen need an oil change?

Your Volkswagen’s oil change schedule will depend on a few different factors: how old your Volkswagen is, how frequently you drive your vehicle and your Volkswagen model and drive type.

For Volkswagens from the model year 2009 and newer, we recommend changing your vehicle’s oil every 8 months – a year, or between 8,000 km – 10,000 km (whichever comes first). Newer Volkswagen models no longer require oil changes every few months. However, we recommend monitoring how often and how far you drive, as you may want to change your oil sooner than the scheduled maintenance mark.

If your Volkswagen model year is 2008 or older, your vehicle will require more frequent maintenance. We recommend that you change your vehicle’s oil every 6 months or 5,000 km.

Does my Volkswagen warranty cover my oil change?

Oil changes are not covered under Volkswagen’s standard warranty coverage. At the time of vehicle purchase, you have the opportunity to also purchase Prepaid Volkswagen Maintenance.

If you have purchased Prepaid Maintenance, oil changes and other maintenance services are provided for you at various km indicators.

What is the best oil to use for my Volkswagen?

It’s important to use the proper engine oil in your Volkswagen. Using the recommended Volkswagen oil ensures both longevity and your vehicle's best performance. Volkswagen engines are built to use high-quality synthetic all-season engine oil.

The recommended oil has a viscosity grade of SAE 5W-40 or SAE 5/N-30. Either of these oils will be used based on your Volkswagen model. Your Volkswagen Service Advisor can tell you which one to use in your vehicle when you visit us for service.

How do I reset my oil change light?

The process to reset your oil change light will differ, depending on your Volkswagen’s model year.
